Tank Nation in full swing here as the Leafs dropped their 4th straight and 8th in their last 10, as the streaking kings defeated the losing Leafs 5-3.The Leafs played good for the first 5 minutes, generating many chances on decent shots. Like usual the good play came to an end as the Kings for the most part outplayed the Leafs and deserved to win the game, just as they did. Gustavsson cannot be blamed for the most part on any of the goals, for they were all nicely placed shots, and seemed to be screened on a few of them. On the other side of the ice was Quick, who also played a fairly solid game keeping LA on top when the Leafs had their pressing moments. Although the Leafs came out on the losing end, a few players did stand out with great games: Hagman and Ponikarovsky. Can you say trade value? With scouts in attendance, 2 of Torontos most tradeable commodities had great games, with Hagman sniping home 2 top cheese, and poni picking up 2 assists with a great 2-way game. Hopefully these trade assets can keep it up to improve the potential return we can receive on trade deadline day.
Up next, the Leafs are in New Jersey. No not to take a walk down the Jersey shore looking for ladies (although they might be better at that than playing hockey), but to play the 2nd place devils. The devils are on a small losing streak dropping their past 2 and 7 of last 10, but with Marty being Marty, the Leafs will be in tough. Expect Gustavsson to get the start then Toskala the Saturday game or vice versa. Also Komisarek may be in the lineup Friday, if not, Saturday.
