Face it, we all do it. We get in our armchairs, we grill Burke up and we tell him how it should be.

So, I figure that maybe we should make a sport out of it. Armchairing, or something like that. Anyways, here are the rules of engagement:

  • You can only make one trade per week, but more if it’s a three or four way deal. (AKA Halladay trade)
  • You can only make a maximum of two signings per week, BUT WAIT, you have to stay under the fifty contract limit.
  • You can demote/promote whoever you want, we’ll assume no one picks up our garbage via waivers.
  • You must stay within the salary cap limits.
  • You can’t buyout out Jason Blake. Kidding, you can only do it in the offseason.
  • Your moves must be based off the roster of the Leafs at the time of this posting.
  • You can’t change lines. Why? Your not Wilson, you’re Burke silly. Who do you think you are, Pat Quinn?
  • Be reasonable and logical : no one would trade Jordan Staal for Lee Stempniak, wake up from your wet dream and clean your pants.

So here is what I would do this week:

  1. With the return of Gunnarsson, it makes one of our defense expendable. It’s not Komisarek, Schenn, Beauchemin, White or Kaberle (yet). That leaves us with Finger and Exelby. Finger’s contract makes him as movable as the sunken Titanic (God rest her soul). That leaves XLB. At this point, I start calling team’s who need a thickheaded, defensively retarded reliable, stay at home defenceman. First offer I get that includes a B prospect or mid-to-late draft pick wins the XLB sweepstakes. But to be specific, I’m asking LA if they want him and in return we get Geordie Wudrick. A big boy who has a nose for the net and drives it hard, can never have too many of these guys.
  2. I demote Jason Blake and Jamal Mayers to the AHL. They both clear, obviously. I’ve now freed up 5.333 Mil. This means TyBo can stay up, and this also means we need someone to fill Mayers’ spot. Wallin, sit down. Ryan Hamilton gets the call. This guy deserves a shot at the NHL level, and I’m going to give him that.
  3. We don’t sign anyone this week. Why? Who is out there, Chris Chelios?

This is what I’ve come up with this week. Criticism is greatly appreciated, and I welcome your own submissions as well, so make sure to email me with them, a winner and runner up will be chosen and revealed in the next episode!
